Build Your Library

Saturday, December 19

A few exceedingly rare 1st editions have become available.

(Darwin's "Origin of Species)

Prices for 1st editions have suffered a bit since the market downturn of 2008 clipped the number of wealthy in America by about 14% in numbers. There was a glut at the antiquarian shops across the country, as many turned to emptying their libraries first, as a method of raising funds.

(Savoy Cocktail Book, 1st edition)

Their loss is our gain.

(9th edition Encyclopedia Brittainica)

I highly recommend any serious collector obtain these books, and at any cost.

Jane Austen the Remix

Sunday, December 13

Seth Grahame-Smith's "Pride & Prejudice and Zombies" has already won every book award conceivable (save the Pulitzer) since it's April 2009 publication, but the novel will have a far-reaching impact on the broader culture of mass media.

Already, Natalie Portman is scheduled to star in the movie adaptation, other classic novels are in the works and, if publishers weekly is to be believed, re-makes of every classic movie, with zombies added, are in the offing.

My personal prayer is for "It's A Wonderful Life and Zombies." They can work at the bank with Mr. Potter.

A well-rounded man knows a good conversation topic, for parties, when he sees it.

You're Welcome

Eyes Over Africa

Saturday, December 12

Yes, the book costs $2000.
Yes, the book is over-sized.
Yes, this book is a photography book.
Yes, you can get a "regular" edition for $30.00.

But YES, THIS BOOK IS WORTH EVERY DIME.

If you have ever been to an Antiquarian Book Seller and wondered, "How can a book cost $85,000? Well give "Eyes Over Africa: XXL Special Edition" some time and it is sure to appreciate in monetary, and photographic, value.
Michael Poliza photographs an Africa that is rapidly changing. Deforestation, animal extinction, war, disease, modernization and gentrification all threaten the continent. Capturing this amazing eden from a helicopter, over a series of 13 months, Poliza affords us access to an Africa as we have never seen her before.

Available at Amazon.
